Meet the Next Level realme 9i

Just a quick look at its rear panel, the new realme 9i looks very fancy. But the entry-level option in the maker’s new 9 series has more than that to offer. Here’s what to love about this latest smartphone:

Next-Level Design

You get a slim and light form factor with the realme 9i, with a weight of 190g and a thickness of 8.4 mm. And with its rounded edges, it is comfortable to hold and use.

The phone has a plastic frame with the volume buttons on the left alongside a tray for two SIMs and a microSD card slot, and the power button on the right, integrated with a capacitive ultra-fast fingerprint scanner which makes it convenient to unlock the smartphone. There’s a USB-C on the bottom, flanked by a 3.5mm headphone jack and, in this case, one of two speakers that support Hi-Res Audio. The second speaker is tucked into the earpiece above. With the Dual-Stereo Speakers, sound experience is richer and more immersive wherever you are.

Again, the back panel has a pattern which is visible only when light hits it at certain angles. It’s Stereo Prism Design, as realme calls it.

*While the Prism Blue variant looks fancier when exposed to the light, the Prism Black has a timeless look.*

In the top left corner of the screen, you get a cutout hole for the selfie camera. The large 6.6-inch full-HD+, color screen boasts a 90Hz peak refresh rate*, and this can change dynamically based on the content you are viewing. The display is great with adequate brightness and rich colors and you can switch between vivid and gentle mode.

*This panel is however a step down considering its predecessor’s screen has a 120Hz refresh rate.

Next-Level Performance

Bringing leap-forward performance in its segment, the realme 9i is backed by the power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 Processor that adopts the advanced 6nm production process and houses 4 Cortex-A73 Cores, 4 Cortex-A53 Cores and an Adreno 610 GPU.

The new smartphone is a good performer when it comes to regular usage, gaming and entertainment. With 6GB of RAM, multitasking was a breeze. But for better multi-tasking and to solve the drawbacks caused by the lack of memory on smartphones, enters the realme’s virtual DRE solution. realme 9i can make use of up to 5GB of its internal storage to act as virtual RAM, giving it up to 11GB total RAM.

The relame 9i runs realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. The UI was easy to use, and you can customize the color mode of the display, too. The phone has a large number of preinstalled apps, and there are different features that can be triggered using gestures, if enabled. It also has a Game Mode that allows you to mute incoming calls and notifications for uninterrupted gaming.

Next-Level Powerhouse

As a very power-efficient, the realme 9i can last for about two days on a full charge. Thanks to the 5000mAh high-capacity battery. While its 33W Dart Charge can get the phone to 50 percent in around 30 minutes, and almost full charged in an hour.

Next-Level Photography

On the back, the realme 9i packs a triple camera setup consisting of a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel black-and-white camera. For selfies, it has a 16-megapixel front camera.

The realme 9i’s camera app is easy to use. You get quick toggles for HDR and AI scene enhancement. The phone was quick to lock focus and set the exposure right.

With the realme 9i, you can get good daylight shots

Photos taken with the 50-megapixel camera* were crisp and had very good detail

Portraits had good edge detection and the phone lets you choose the level of background blur

Night mode has good detail in the shadows, but low-light photography doesn’t quite deliver.

* You must turn on in the camera app. Otherwise, the phone captures 12.5-megapixel photos.

realme 9i supports up to 30fps video recording which is good enough to get stationary videos.

As the company’s budget offering in the 9 series, the realme 9i is a value for money smartphone as you get a smarter design, a much better chipset, strong battery life, and faster charging compared to its predecessor.

Note: realme has been pushing plenty of 5G phones for over a year now, but it is good to note that this latest offering is a 4G-only model.
