realme 10 Pro 5G: Unboxing, First Impressions

As we enter the year 2023, realme has announced two new smartphones. This marks the first release on the company’s signature number series line this year. Luckily, I got a chance to try out one of the two phones — the realme 10 Pro.

The latest iteration of the popular number series comes in the usual yellow-black packaging with the imposing “10 Pro” on the face of the box. Inside the box, the items include:

  • realme 10 Pro 5G unit
  • screen protector (preinstalled)
  • transparent case
  • SIM eject tool
  • 33W SuperVOOC adapter
  • USB-A to USB-C charging cable
  • documentations
Opening the box, you’ll find a yellow packet which says “Let’s embrace a new journey,” signaling a “new year, new phone” kind of vibe.

Talking first about the design, the realme 10 Pro 5G has a boxy, rectangular slab shape, accentuated with round four corners. The edges are sharp with no curvature of any kind (making it slightly hard to grip) but still looks and feels premium with its minimalist approach.

Instead of a glossy look, the realme 10 Pro has a matte finish across the board, including the sides. The matte finish makes the phone slip-free.

We got the Dark Matter colorway and so the rear panel has a playfully shiny appearance yet smudge-free matte feel to the hand. The branding is located at the lower left portion, parallel to the two protruding cameras on the top left.

The phone is light enough in the hand at 192g (but with a depth of 8.3mm, it can be called a bit thick).

The realme 10 Pro’s near bezel-less display is also its more impressive feature. It comes with a claimed 93.7 percent screen-to-body ratio and features a remarkable the razor-thin bezels on the top, left and right sides of the panel. Precisely, the width of these bezels is just 1mm, one of the slimmest bezels I’ve ever seen. However, the chin does not replicate this thinness (but it can be considered acceptably slim compared to other phones in the category).

While not in the league of AMOLED panels, the LCD display still offers the same experience visually for the average consumer.

The panel itself is a 6.7-inch IPS LCD with a corning Gorilla Glass layer that assures adequate protection against accidental falls.  The IPS LCD front screen also has a punch-hole at the top for the front camera.

Looking at some other features on the device, there’s the side-mounted fingerprint scanner, situated above it are the volume buttons. The SIM card tray can be access on the other side. And as usual, you get a 3.5mm headphone jack, the standard USB Type-C dock port, and a speaker grille.
