League of Legends Dev Update: Ranked, Shyvana & More Dev Update

Today, the League of Legends team released a new Dev Update, during which Paul “Pabro” Bellezza, Andrei “Meddler” Van Roon, Ed “Riot Memurr” Zhao, shared reflections on Season 1, news about Shyvana’s gameplay and visual update, thoughts on ARAM: Mayhem, and more.

More details on what they covered can be found below:

Overall, the team is satisfied with the way the Season 1 gameplay changes have been landing after some adjustments.

  • The team is monitoring the performance of Faelights and the power levels of certain roles, including ADC and top lane.
  • Following the return of Hextech Gunblade and Stormrazor, the team is open to player feedback about items they would like to see return in the future.
  • This season, the time for players to get into game is down substantially, about 30% on average, and lobby dodges have dropped from 19% to 4%.

Some adjustments to MMR distribution have been implemented to address issues at the bottom and top of the Ranked ladder.

  • The team intends for Iron to be a place for new players rather than a long-term home, so changes were targeted at bringing more veteran players out of Iron and into Bronze.
  • Similarly, the skill differential between players in Diamond IV and Diamond I was roughly the difference between Bronze IV and high Silver, so the high end of Diamond was moved into Master.
  • The MMR range for Master has been widened, making the LP requirement for apex tiers higher.
  • The team is looking into potential adjustments to the Ranked ladder in the future, including adding more divisions or tiers at the highest and lowest ranks.

Shyvana’s update will be live next patch.

  • The team worked with Shyvana mains to preserve the things they loved about her design and character, and make improvements to address their areas of feedback.
  • All of Shyvana’s skins will be available, and she will have an exclusive Leg Day Bundle for a limited time.

Following overwhelmingly positive player feedback about ARAM: Mayhem, the team plans to continue adding new content and implementing balance updates.

  • Additionally, ARAM: Mayhem’s run is being extended, with no end date currently planned.

Finally, the team showcased community creations and answered questions from players, among which was the confirmation that, while there is no new champion planned for Season 1, there will be a new champion releasing in Season 2 that relates to the thematics of both seasons.
