Third-Party Contractor Causes Traffic, Water interruption in EDSA-Boni Ave. Area

Motorists traveling along the northbound direction of EDSA – Boni/Pioneer were greeted by heavier traffic last Monday morning. The 600-mm mainline of Manila Water was damaged on the evening of April 11, also causing flood as well as water interruption in the nearby areas.

The breakage was caused by AWIN Technology, a third-party contractor of Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) that is doing CCTV network installation.

According to Manila Water, this is not the first time that this contractor damaged water lines through the course of their work since last year. The said contractor has already caused breakages on water pipes at six (6) different sites in the East Zone, including last night’s, which was already the second incident for 2021.

MMDA has already sincerely apologized for the inconvenience.

Despite difficult conditions onsite and the extent of the damage, physical repair on the mainline has just been completed and energization of the line is ongoing. With pressure build-up, water supply in some areas were already fully restored by 6:00 AM today.

Meanwhile, Manila Water is coordinating with the contracting agency for sanctions as well as to work together to avoid these incidents from happening again.

Updates regarding this activity will be posted on Manila Water’s social media pages and website.
