“Naglalatag kami ng karton sa palengke at doon kami natututlog na anim na magkakapatid kasama ang nanay naming tindera. Ilang taon din yun,” reveals a teary-eyed Bayani Agbayani to Korina Sanchez-Roxas, host of thr NET25 Korina Interviews.
Bayani sat down with Korina over at PUP or Polytechnic University of the Philippines, where he studied. Here, the GoodWill actor narrated his life’s story.
This episode is also extra special as Bayani was honored as Outstanding Alumni ng PUP.
“Dito sa campus na ito ko naaalala lahat ng struggles namin sa buhay. Biro mo Ma’am K mula 3 years old ako nagtatrabaho na ako at ramdam ko na ang hirap namin. Hanggang sa nag kolehiyo ako at nag graduate mahirap pa rin kami,” says the comedian.
Bayani honed his craft as a comedian becuase of poverty as he felt that laughter is an effective way to cope with life’s problems and challenges.
Bayani narrated his journey from extreme poverty to his maiden foray to showbiz until he scored a major hit with his song “Otso-Otso” that comes with an iconic dance routine.
“May kuwento din pala yung Otso-Otso! Pero you have to watch the interview,” says ace interviewer Korina.
Bayani also toured PUP while talking to Korina. He even took Korina at the rail tracks for a delicious serving of fishballs.
