Viu and Globe co-produce the new Viu Original Reality Show Hello K-Idol in the Philippines

Viu, a leading pan-regional OTT video service by PCCW Media Group in Hong Kong, has teamed up with Globe Telecom to produce Hello K-Idol, the first Viu Original reality show of its kind in the country.

Working closely with Facebook as channel partner and the team that produced The Voice Philippines, Viu and Globe Studios will ensure that K-pop fans all over the country will be able to view the next big thing in K-pop reality TV anytime, anywhere. The country’s largest mall operator, Ayala Malls, will also be the venue partner to support this reality show.

Country Manager of Viu Philippines, Arianne Kader-Cu, said: Our dream of producing an online reality show has come into fruition with Hello K-Idol. Reality shows are a dime a dozen on television, but with our first Viu Original in the country, we wanted to create something special by nurturing and honing Filipino talent with the help of their real-life idols on an international platform. With over 15 million Filipinos interested in Korean entertainment we hope they can relate and stand by the K-trainees in their journey to fulfilling their K-Pop dreams.

Head of Globe Studios, Quark Henares, said: We used to watch reality shows on TV, where the viewer’s schedule was set by broadcast times. What Globe Studios has done is give the viewer the power to watch their shows and keep up with their favorite personalities anytime, anywhere. The Hello K-Idol world will be shared by every viewer with just a touch of their mobile phones and tablets.

Following on-ground and online auditions adjudicated jointly by Viu and Globe in May 2018, 10 male finalists aged between 18 and 27 will be featured in online webisodes over 10 weeks from July to September and streamed exclusively on the Viu platform.

There will also be additional episodes with behind-the-scenes footage and extended profiles on the contestants. The final winner will be awarded the coveted prize of a four-month all-expense paid scholarship to learn K-pop vocal and dance at a prestigious entertainment talent school in Korea.
The webisodes will follow the K-Idol finalists as they undertake the 10-week challenge, where they will hone their talents in singing, dancing, performing, styling, and teamwork. A star-studded cast will critique their performances, while providing them with much-needed guidance on their quest to stardom.

K-idols Yook Sung-Jae from the award-winning K-drama, Goblin, and Jung Joon-Young from the variety show, 2 Days & 1 Night, will serve as inspirations for the K-Idol finalists. Mentors on the panel include singer Jinho Bae, and Korean professional dance artiste, Dasuri Choi just to name a few. Kring Elenzano-Kim, prominent online host and personality, former reality TV star, and founder of two of the biggest K-Pop fans organizations in the Philippines will be hosting the show.
Watch out for fan meetings with the K-Idols happening around Manila, the first of which was headlined by Yook Sung-Jae on July 13 at 5pm. The show’s grand finale episode will be available on Viu in September 2018.
