Black is OUT, Purple is IN: Huawei P20 comes with a unique nature-inspired color

Huawei unveiled the P20, its latest technological masterpiece to the world, with plenty of eye-catching features in tow. The most eye-catching, perhaps, is the unique gradient color the P20 sports on the back, which also happens to be the Pantone Color of the Year for 2018: purple.

Breaking Monotony with a Flourish of Twilight

Modern touchscreen devices, despite their immense functional versatility, often take a hit in the visual design department. We all know that familiar form factor: tall, black rectangles. The design has not evolved much over the years, simply because most OEMs never find the need to implement drastic changes.

Huawei recognizes how stale tall, black rectangles can get, especially for such personal devices like a smartphone. Enter the new purple or ‘Twilight’ color option for the Huawei P20, which stands out like a runway model strutting flamboyantly past a mass of people in plain, black suits. The Twilight color scheme was designed with inspirations from the aurora. By capturing the shifting colors of the Northern Lights on the back of the P20 Pro, Huawei brings the magnificent natural phenomenal to the hands of consumers, in the form of a smartphone color scheme. The P20’s color seems to shift with every tilt of the device, much like the fiery dusk transitioning to a velvety early evening sky.

A Visionary Color for a Stylish Device

The Pantone Color Institute describes its 2018 purple shade as “provocative and thoughtful”, representing the kind of ingenuity and visionary thinking that carries us towards the future. Purple has always been a fashion favorite: Prince’s posthumous Purple Rain Deluxe Expanded album is self-explanatory, as well as the ultra violet strobe lights that showered Gucci’s spring 2018 collection at last September’s Milan Fashion Week. Pantone’s description fits the Huawei P20 perfectly, which balances its cutting-edge tech features with a distinctly stylish appeal.

Smartphones are more than just gadgets – they are our pocket-sized gateway to the rest of the world, giving us access to a bevy of information, culture, and trends. The Huawei P20’s purple color variant brings an undeniably fashion-forward appeal for its users; a powerful device with striking style to match.
