FedEx celebrates National Safe Kids Week with announcement of 2017 Young Road Safety Champion

FedEx Express, one of the large express transportation company, and Safe Kids Worldwide Philippines (SKWP) recently announced the 2017 Young Road Safety Champion during the annual celebration of National Safe Kids Week.

In 2004, FedEx and SKWP launched the Young Road Safety Advocate Program where fifth and sixth graders help train younger kids proper pedestrian behavior. The most effective student-mentor of the program is named the Young Road Safety Champion. Danna Jae Castillo was recognized for her effectiveness as a young educator at Holy Spirit Elementary School.
To date, more than 900 outstanding senior students have mentored 100,000 of their younger peers from public elementary schools in the cities of Manila, Pasay, Parañaque, Quezon, Angeles, and Cebu.
“We at FedEx are committed in creating safer environments within the community. By awarding our Young Road Safety Champion and celebrating National Safe Kids Week, we continue to harness the power of education and empower the youth as partners in our road safety advocacy,” says John Peterson, FedEx Express Philippines Managing Director.
Observed every third week of June under Presidential Proclamation 1307, National Safe Kids Week advocates awareness on traumatic injuries as the leading causes of death in the Philippines. This year, the celebration also featured an advocacy walk and lectures by government partners such as the Department of Health and Department of Education.
