Sun Life Financial once again recognized journalists nationwide in helping them achieve a financially-literate country during this year’s Sinag: Sun Life’s Financial Literacy Journalism Awards held at Fairmont Hotel in Makati City, December 6.
In its fourth year, Sun Life awarded print journalists, digital influencers and student writers for their efforts in raising awareness about financial literacy in the Philippines.
In her opening speech, Riza Mantaring, Sun Life President and CEO stressed that financial literacy and freedom is an advocacy that needs to be consistently pursued and how stories on financial literacy helps Filipinos to have a deeper understanding of money management and inspires people pursue financial freedom.
Also present is Sun Life Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa. She said: Sun Life is mindful of the power of the media as an instrument that can help convey information in order for our citizens to acquire higher literacy in managing its financial resources and hopes that journalists will never get tired in helping Filipinos be well-informed and increase their financial literacy.
Print category grand winners are: Nelson Bagaforo of Sun Star Davao (Mindanao), Vernon Joseph Go of The Freeman (Visayas) and Daxim Lucas of Philippine Daily Inquirer (Luzon).
Blogger winners for the Digital awards category are Mary Grace Maulion (tipidmommy.com) as second runner up, Clarizza Glino (savingspinay.ph) as first runner up and Nimfa Nadtja Villaver (liitatpayat.com) as the winner.
Joevane Bitad of STI College – Alabang; Franchesca Pauline Cantos of Miriam College; Miraclene Moltio of University of Baguio and Bea Nicole Amarille of University of Sto. Tomas were named the Sinag Awards’ student edition winners.
Each winner received a trophy and worth of Sun Life’s Prosperity Fund starter.
Launched last 2014, Sinag is an annual competition participated by print and digital journalists whose best works are recognized for helping educate the public to be financially responsible and educating them on the right habit and tools to be successful on their financial journey.
