The VinFast VF 3 was designed as a practical electric vehicle for school runs, grocery trips, and daily commutes, while also becoming a canvas for personal expression among owners. Now, it can add another role to the list: police patrol vehicles.
Over the past few weeks, some police agencies in Indonesia and the Philippines have put the VinFast VF 3, a mini electric SUV that has become one of VinFast’s most popular models, to work, adding a new dimension to the vehicle’s growing reputation across Southeast Asia.
In the Philippines, the Municipality of Noveleta in Cavite recently deployed electric police patrol vehicles as part of its commitment to sustainable governance, environmental responsibility, and modern public safety. As the first municipality in the CALABARZON region to adopt EV mobility goals, Noveleta is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable transportation through the deployment of VF 3 patrol vehicles. The initial deployment includes VF 3 units supplied through VinFast Marikina and Xentro, with additional units expected in the future.
The vehicles will support local patrol operations while helping reduce fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs. For a local government looking to modernize its fleet, the move reflects a growing interest in electric mobility that extends well beyond private vehicle ownership.
In Indonesia, the VinFast VF 3 has taken on an even more specialized role.
Indonesia’s National Traffic Police Corps recently unveiled its Precision Drone Patrol ETLE program, a technology-driven initiative that uses drones to monitor traffic conditions and identify violations. To support the program, officers selected a modified VF 3 as a mobile transport vehicle for drone equipment.
The vehicle was extensively adapted for the task. The rear section was redesigned to accommodate equipment storage, allowing officers to transport and deploy traffic-monitoring drones from different locations. Its compact dimensions were seen as a major advantage, enabling officers to maneuver easily through congested urban areas and operate from spaces where larger vehicles might struggle.
While the Philippine and Indonesian deployments serve different purposes, they point to the same conclusion: the VF 3 is proving to be a flexible vehicle.
Zooming out even further, we can see how this aligns with a broader trend taking shape around the world. Police agencies and government fleets are increasingly exploring electric vehicles as they look to reduce operating costs, lower emissions, and modernize their transportation networks. Compared with traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, EVs typically require less maintenance, produce no tailpipe emissions, offer lower day-to-day energy costs, and come packed with digital features. EVs are not called “computers on wheels” for no reason.
The VF 3 also possesses several qualities that make it particularly well-suited to public service applications.
Its compact footprint is perhaps the most obvious advantage. Measuring just 3,190 mm long, 1,679 mm wide, and 1,652 mm high, the VF 3 is noticeably smaller than most passenger vehicles on the roads today. That makes it ideal for navigating crowded city streets, squeezing through narrow roads, maneuvering through busy public markets, and parking in tight spaces. Yet despite its compact size, the VF 3 sits on 16-inch wheels and offers 175 mm of ground clearance, giving it the kind of SUV-like stance that helps when roads become less than perfect.
The VF 3 can drive a range of up to 215 kilometers on a full charge, enough for several days of typical urban driving for many owners. When it is time to recharge, the battery can go from 10% to 70% in around 36 minutes using DC fast charging. For police patrol duties, municipal fleets, and everyday drivers alike, that means less time plugged in and more time on the road.
The “Tiny Titan”
These latest deployments represent another milestone for a model that has already become one of VinFast’s biggest success stories.
In Vietnam, VinFast has maintained its position as the country’s best-selling automotive brand for 20 consecutive months. Among the strongest contributors to that achievement has been the VF 3.
In May 2026 alone, VinFast delivered 4,770 VF 3 units, bringing cumulative VF 3 deliveries to 20,231 vehicles during the first five months of the year. The model has consistently ranked among the company’s top-selling products and has played an important role in the rapid growth of electric mobility in Vietnam.
The same momentum is increasingly visible across Southeast Asia. In both Indonesia and the Philippines, the VF 3 has attracted attention as an affordable and practical entry point into electric vehicle ownership.
Part of its appeal lies in the fact that it feels different from many entry-level vehicles. Rather than following the traditional small hatchback formula, the VF 3 adopts a boxy, SUV-inspired design that gives it a stronger road presence than its compact dimensions might suggest.
For urban drivers, that compact size remains one of its biggest strengths. Yet there is more to the appeal than convenience. The VF 3 comes with a 7-year or 160,000-kilometer vehicle warranty and a 10-year battery warranty. It also benefits from VinFast’s rapidly growing service network and free charging program at V-Green charging stations, helping reduce ownership costs even further.
At the same time, as fuel prices continue to fluctuate, electric vehicles offer a way for drivers to reduce day-to-day transportation expenses. For Filipino buyers, the VF 3 combines a low purchase price, low energy costs, long warranty coverage, and modern technology into a package that makes EV ownership more accessible than ever.
The same characteristics that make it appealing to families and urban drivers, including its compact size, low operating costs, maneuverability, and practicality, also make it useful for public service and fleet operations.
Whether it is carrying a family across town, helping officers patrol local communities in the Philippines, or supporting drone-based traffic enforcement in Indonesia, the VF 3 is demonstrating that versatility can come in a surprisingly small package.
