Oris Raises Awareness To The World’s Waters

With the release of the Oris Aquis Date Relief and Aquis Blue Whale Limited Edition, Oris is doing its own way to raise awareness of the importance of water.

Due to climate change, rapid disposal of plastic, and negligence in sewage treatment, the world’s oceans—comprising 97 percent of the water available to us—are at serious risk. Roughly 80 percent of the garbage in the ocean came from land-based sources, while improper sewage disposal has led to the creation of close to 500 “dead zones”: Areas where marine life cannot survive, adding up to a combined area about the size of the UK.

Reason for this partnership, swimmer and water ambassador Ernst Bromeisis, the man who has already swum the length of the Rhine and is now working on ‘The Blue Miracle’, a series of swims that will form a campaign to raise awareness of water, will be swimming the world’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia, hoping to make people aware of the situation our waters are in, even if they look pristine to our untrained eyes. The swim will take him 60 days and the water will measure a chilly 12 degrees Celsius. Accompanying Bromeis is legendary photographer Maurice Haas.

For their part, Oris released the Oris Aquis Date Relief, the latest entry in the brand’s line of cause-oriented timepieces. The watch takes its name from the reliefs on its uni-directional rotating diver’s bezel—a first for the Aquis collection. The watch’s signature diving scale numerals in relief are a reminder of the texture of water, as well as its elemental role in all life. The watch’s gray dial calls to mind a storm-ridden sea, while the red second-hand pops against the backdrop, underlining the sense of urgency behind Oris’ advocacy.

Meanwhile, Oris also announced a partnership with the charity Whale and Dolphin Conservation aimed at protecting the mighty blue whale. The Aquis Blue Whale Limited Edition completes the Oris Ocean Trilogy, part of the brand’s ongoing Oceans Project.

The innovation of clean ocean limited edition watches that have been created with cooperation with the pioneers of the world’s ocean conservation in a new form by changing plastic garbage to the back to energy as part of the “follow your own way – go your own way” with the most effort to bring a better change with a friendly practice of ecosystem and environment.

The Aquis Blue Whale Limited Edition will only be available as part of the Ocean Trilogy set that is limited to only 200 examples. Making the trio more special is that it comes packaged in a presentation case made from recycled PET plastic bottles.
