Brazil Bet Wins Miss Asia Pacific International 2017

Brazil’s Francielly Ouriques was crowned Miss Asia Pacific International 2017 in the final pageant ceremonies staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila in Pasay City on Wednesday night.

Crowd favorite Ouriques, who pushes for diversity in beauty, edged out 41 other aspirants for the title that advocates love and appreciation of cultural, physical, and spiritual diversities.
Finishing second is Acacia Walker from New Zealand, while Valeria Cardona of Honduras placed third. The Top five finalists also included Morgan Doelwut of Netherlands and Ilene De Vera of the Philippines.

In the final interview round, Ouriques was asked if the pageant’s advocacy of promoting fostering love, appreciation, and unity in diversity is relevant in this day and age.
She answered through a translator: “I believe that we are all equal before God and all of us should be able to spread love, and spread good things among everybody. Respect, unity, and love are principles that my parents thought me and that everybody should foster that.”
The 25-year-old model received her crown from Dutch beauty Tessa Le Conge, who bagged the title in last year’s edition. Ouriques, who stands 5’8, has also won special awards such as Best in Swimsuit, Miss Sheridan and Best in Festival Costume.
The swimsuit competition was held in Puerto Princesa City at the Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa. Top awards went to Louisa Brown of Australia for Miss Congeniality and Best National Costume to Rita Nurmaliza of Indonesia.
Dubbed the mother of all beauty pageants in Southeast Asia, the Miss Asia Pacific International pageant is said to be the oldest such pageant in Asia.
Started in 1968 as a non-stock, non-profit organization corporation with the aim of promoting tourism for the Philippines overseas, its original name was Miss Asia Quest Inc. and it was the beginning of 48 years of beauty pageantry in the Philippines. The contest later acquired the defunct Queen of the Pacific pageant and was renamed as the Miss Asia Pacific Quest.

At the turn of the millennium, the contest expanded and accepted delegates from outside the Asia-Pacific region and was called the Miss Asia Pacific International pageant.
It made a comeback in 2016 following a 10-year hiatus.
