Wacom Launches Exciting Products in the PH

Answering the demand of professional artists, designers, illustrators and students in the local market, brand leader in professional creative products Wacom Philippines officially unveiled its latest innovations and product offerings to the Filipinos.

The advanced technology of Wacom’s intuitive input devices has been used to create some of the most exciting digital art, films, special effects, fashion and designs around the world and provides business and home users with their leading interface technology to express their personality.
Wacom is targeting a 90-per cent share of the global pen tablet market this year and will double its marketing efforts, particularly in the Philippines.

“The Philippines is actually a promising market for us. We see a lot of opportunities here. If you think of Southeast Asia, the Philippines is in the top three,”said Ong Khiaw Seng, senior director sales for Southeast Asia and South Asia.

Wacom aims to grow sales in the Philippines by 30 per cent this year as it looks to take advantage of demand from the education sector and creative industries. In line with this, Wacom has also inked a partnership with the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE). The PSITE serves as a venue for the optimization and development of  faculty members, curricula, projects, research, resources, linkages, and assistance in policy formulation related to IT education.
 

Present during the signing are Dr. Neil Balba, President, Philippine Society of IT Educators; Mr. KS Wong, Wacom Senior Director for Marketing Asia Pacific and Dr. Rolando Lansingan, VP External, Philippine Society of IT Educators.

There is a demand from the education sector as there are animation subjects part of the K-12 basic education program being implemented in the country. Apart from this, he said there is also demand from the growing creative industries such as animation and gaming in the country.

Wacom introduced its 10 newest products to cater to both sectors, including the MobileStudio Pro, Pro Pen 2, Cintiq Pro, and Intuos Pro Creative Tablet.

Historically, its most in-demand product is its entry-level Intous product — a line of creative pen tablets used by for drawing, sketching and photo activities.

“We sold 6,000 products in the Philippines last year. We’re targeting 30 percent growth in sales this year. The driver of growth would be new products,” Antonius Malabanan, Wacom country manager for the Philippines told.

Wacom also invited Fil-Am animation artist Armand Serrano to demonstrate and share his experience with Wacom. Serrano, known for his works at Walt Disney Animation Studio and Sony Pictures Animation, has been in the animation industry for more than 2 decades and currently serving as Visual Development artist for Walt Disney Animation Studio in Burbank, California. During his nine years stay at Sony, Armand completed a total of15 projects including Surf’s Up, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, Arthur Christmas, Hotel Transylvania and his latest credits with Disney the award-winning Big Hero 6 and Zootopia.

A Wacom user for almost 17 years, Serrano shared that he started with Wacom’s Graphire and had the first generation of Cintiq which was very durable. In his studio, Serrano uses at work a Cintiq Pro and always carry along with him a Cintiq Companion 2.
