SureServ, the country’s first “Gamot Now, Pay Later (GNPL)” service provider, has announced a landmark partnership with Mercury Drug, the Philippines’ largest and most trusted drugstore chain.
Under the partnership, employees of companies enrolled in SureServ’s program can now purchase prescription medicines, vitamins, and other health essentials at any Mercury Drug branch nationwide, with payments conveniently settled through salary deduction at a later date. This benefit-driven model directly addresses one of the most persistent challenges in Philippine healthcare: out-of-pocket spending.
Financial lifeline when healthcare needs are urgent
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), out-of-pocket healthcare expenses account for nearly 47% of total health spending in the Philippines, one of the highest in Southeast Asia. Additionally, a 2023 Social Weather Stations survey found that 25.3% of Filipino families had at least one member who got sick but did not seek medical treatment due to financial limitations. SureServ’s GNPL service responds to this gap by offering Filipino workers immediate access to medicines and essential healthcare products—without the burden of upfront payment.
“SureServ was built on the idea that no Filipino should have to choose between their health and financial stability,” said Johnny Bondoc, Founder and CEO of SureServ. “By partnering with a trusted name like Mercury Drug, we are not just improving access—we are removing barriers. This collaboration empowers Filipino workers to take care of their health immediately, with dignity and without delay.”
As inflation continues to weigh heavily on household budgets—with medicines among essential expenses most affected—SureServ and Mercury Drug’s collaboration emerges as a timely and transformative solution.
Nakasisigurong gamot sa SureServ
Mercury Drug, a household name trusted for over 75 years, operates with a wide retail footprint (more than 1,200 branches nationwide) that spans metro cities, provincial hubs, and rural communities. This makes the GSPL benefit especially impactful for employees outside urban centers where medical resources and financial safety nets can be limited.
SureServ’s member base currently includes employees across manufacturing, logistics, manpower services, and other labor-driven sectors, industries where healthcare benefits are critical but often stretched thin. The company continues to scale rapidly, onboarding more enterprise partners nationwide to bring GNPL benefits to thousands more Filipino workers and their families.
Bondoc underscored that the initiative is more than a payment alternative—it is a workforce multiplier for employers.
“For companies, GNPL is a seamless addition to employee wellness and retention programs. For workers, it means peace of mind when the unexpected happens—no deferrals, no tough choices, no delays in care,” Bondoc said.
By embedding financial inclusion into everyday healthcare access, the initiative sets a new standard for employer-supported medical benefits in the Philippines.
