Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) ushered in the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Liwanag ng Pasko, held on December 4, 2024. The event celebrated the nostalgia of old Philippine Christmas traditions, aiming to ignite the spirit of the season for passengers and the entire airport community.

The ceremony was graced by notable personalities, including Athanasios Titonis, Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC) CEO; Henrik Jepsen, ACAC CFO; Aldwin Uy, ACAC Deputy Chief Operations Officer; Julius Neri Jr., Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority General Manager; and Cynthia King Chan, Congresswoman of Lapu-Lapu City. Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit of MCIA in creating meaningful experiences for its stakeholders.

The evening’s program featured a live stage play by the University of San Carlos (USC) Theater Guild, transporting attendees to a bygone era of heartfelt Filipino Christmas traditions. The USC Choristers captivated the audience with carols that echoed the warmth and joy of the season.

This year’s celebration was made possible through the generous support of sponsors Wagas Ukeleles, My Islands, Momento, and SSP Mactan, whose partnership helped transform the event into a truly festive spectacle.

“Christmas is a time to bring people together and celebrate the values of unity, joy, compassion, gratitude, and generosity” said Athanasios Titonis, CEO of ACAC. “Through Liwanag ng Pasko, MCIA embraces its role as more than just an airport but as a gateway to unforgettable experiences and traditions that define our culture.”

With a dazzling Christmas tree and heartwarming performances, MCIA successfully transported attendees back to the essence of Filipino Christmas, ensuring that passengers and the airport community alike felt the holiday spirit stronger than ever.
