With its latest mid-range, sub-flagship model – the HONOR 90 5G, HONOR pushes the midrange category way up by simply adding some flagship-level specs down the pipeline. The HONOR 90 5G is a promising midranger with some really remarkable specs. From my time with it so far, it looks great and performs very impressive indeed.

Design Feature
The HONOR 90 5G is slim and tall, lightweight phone. With the ~89.9% screen-to-body ratio, the bezel of the phone is thin and almost merges with the frame of the phone.
The phone has this well-constructed plastic frame, a quad-curved, reinforced glass on the front and a generally rounded body for a great in-hand feel. The bottom side has the dual SIM tray, USB Type-C input, speaker grills and mic, while the top side is clean with a single mic and thin ear speaker. Meanwhile, the back panel is pearlescent, featuring 3 lenses and a flash in an evolved dual-elliptical design. And yes, the phone has a modern look, and is very stylish!
Display Quality
Speaking of quad-curved, the display is another thing the HONOR 90 5G has going for it. Packing a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a full HD+ resolution, up to 120 Hz display refresh rate, and 1600 nits peak brightness, HONOR has indeed put a lot of work into this unit’s display credentials.
The HONOR 90 5G also features several eye comfort features: a circadian night display, an industry-leading 3,840 Hz pulse width modulation dimming, and a TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certification (less fatiguing on your eyes at all times).
Simply put, this newest HONOR smartphone display has no lags, and features outstanding color accuracy and a high-level eye protection technology.
The phone can really be perfect for today’s entertainment-hungry generation who spend long hours viewing and watching content on their smartphones. However, it only does have a mono speaker on the bottom. Having one more on the earpiece would have made it a strong device for multimedia use. This is a bit of a missed opportunity since the display is already so good.
Camera Performance
The HONOR 90 5G has three cameras that signify improved photography and videography capabilities. Dubbed as “Camera King”, the phone features 200MP flagship level camera with super clear photo and video output.
The main camera is capable of capturing good details with excellent colors; the ultrawide is pretty close, and the depth camera is barely usable. The 50 MP selfie snapper in front is okay; but definitely you’ll be needing good lighting for decent results.
Multi-Video option where you can record with main cameras and selfie camera recording simultaneously.
For realistic day-to-day use, users will have to be extra careful, especially there is no official IP rating for this phone. Sadly, it also doesn’t come with a telephoto camera. But overall, the HONOR 90 has actually a pretty capable camera system for its price.
Software & Hardware Experience
The HONOR 90 5G uses the Accelerated Edition of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 (+ Adreno 644 GPU), a pretty capable upper-midrange chipset, making it also pretty efficient. Honor says that the new chipset should bring about a 20% increase in performance and AI performance has increased by 30% compared to its predecessor, the HONOR 70.
In real life scenarios, the Honor 90 is pretty snappy and quick. There was no major lag between screens or scrolling the apps. It has handled light gaming and streaming without getting even slightly warm.
The HONOR 90 5G comes with Android 13 out of the box with HONOR’s proprietary MagicOS 7.1 UI on top. Offering a range of upgraded and customized features, the MagicOS works pretty smooth and fast.
This HONOR device also has plenty of memory configurations are available, starting from the basic 8GB/256GB and going all the way up to a flagship level memory and storage of 12GB/512GB.
There’s no microSD card slot onboard, but the aforementioned memory configurations should be more than enough even for heavy multimedia users.
It may still not have the best hardware but it’s certainly enough for daily use, and 5G connectivity makes it viable for long-term use.
Battery Life
There’s a 5000mAh battery in this HONOR phone and it boasts a two-day battery life. There’s no wireless charging, but there’s a 66W super-fast charger, that promises to charge up to 20% in 5 minutes!
Overall Performance
A great mid-range phone with some flagship-level specs, surely the HONOR 90 5G outperforms its affordable price. It may not have the best hardware but it’s certainly enough for daily use.
