Bajula struts awkward dance moves on the music video of soulful jam ‘Catching You’

Filipino alt-R&B duo Bajula pays tribute to the good old days of ‘90s R&B and slow jams on the music video of “Catching You”—their independently released track off the upcoming album, Sensual Dance Club.

Wearing their best impression of acclaimed New Jack Swing groups such as All-4-One and New Edition, the promising newcomer struts awkward dance moves in their canary suits and vintage long sleeves, as they serenade an invisible target of their affection.

The music video, which is directed by the incredible twosome themselves and budding filmmaker Hennie Ken Avila, aims to introduce their music and persona to the public.

“We did it all DIY,” shares Frazier. “As independent artists, it’s a humbling experience to take control of the visual narrative and reflect ideas on something that is representative of your art. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far as a creative team.”

The lilting, soulful track was the last song written and produced off their soon-to-be-released record. It documents the highs and lows of being in a relationship, and wanting to connect with the other person badly.

“I’ve always wanted to tell stories through flashes of scenarios instead of being direct,” Jolo ‘Frazier’ Juatco, the synth player/keyboardist/co-vocalist of Bajula admits. “I always had the urge to add an R&B-ish ‘mood song’ that tackles the more mature side of romantic storytelling.

Catching You is confrontational as it is drunken: delivered from the perspective of someone talking to no one but himself, and admitting that there’s work that needs to be done in order for the relationship to work.”
