#ShareHopeWithSM: Celebrate our Modern-Day Heroes

This holiday season, shoppers may show your appreciation for our hardworking frontliners via the #ShareHopeWithSM promo.

I personally nominated Robinson “Obeng” Chavez, one of our barangay police safety officers. As a BPSO or tanod of Barangay 350 in Sta. Cruz, Manila, Obeng performs a numerous task in maintaining the peace and order situation in our area. He is also one of the frontliners in the preparation and response to any type of emergencies and calamities that threaten public safety in our barangay.

But during the pandemic, Obeng stepped up as a member of Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT).

As BHERT member, Obeng became the first line emergency respondents in our community, now mainly tasked with managing all COVID-related healthcare needs. With the help of our district health center, he also promotes awareness of the virus. He also supports the DoH Surveillance Units and Contact Tracing Teams in tracing confirmed COVID-19 patients and visits houses and condo units to regularly monitor cases and quarantined individuals. He also heads the transfer of residents in the barangays to COVID facilities for isolation once they experience COVID-19 symptoms.

Obeng hopes that we make the effort to know who the BHERT-friends are in our communities, so we know who to call if the need arises. He also encourages everyone to make it a habit to track everything we do and everywhere we go to make it easier for our contact tracing teams to identify who we were in contact with. “If we work together, we will get through this pandemic,” he said.

In our barangay, Obeng is not just a peace and order frontliner who protects us; he is also a medical frontliner who is sacrificing his life daily in the fight against COVID-19 in our community. He is a hero and deserves to be recognized for his hard work and dedication.

Thanks, Obeng for definitely going above and beyond!

You can still nominate a frontliner to receive a special gift via the #ShareHopeWithSM digital mailbox until December 14.
