Shopping for Proudly Made in Marikina School Shoes!

Marikeños have regarded shoemaking as a way of life and that paved the way for the establishment of a vibrant shoe industry that has contributed much to the economy, culture and heritage of Marikina.

It was year 1887 when Marikina emerged as a town of shoemakers through the efforts of Don Laureano “Kapitan Moy” Guevarra, who was said as the “Father of Shoe Industry” in the Philippines. He was assisted in this effort by Tiburcio Eustaquio, Ambrocio Sta. Ines and Gervacio Carlos. From this year, the growth of the city economically becomes dynamic due to shoemaking industry.

Because of its progressive shoe industry, Marikina is known as the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines”  today. Coupled with the perseverance of the industry and local leaders in promoting the product amidst the many challenges it faced, the success of Marikina’s footwear industry through the years is persistently growing as a number of Filipinos, who are very much aware of the high quality of Marikina-made shoes, are continuously patronizing them.

Given the important role played by the shoe industry in Marikina’s economic, cultural and social development, its local government has been continuously advocating the development of the City’s Footwear & Leathergoods Industry. Thanks to Mayor Marcy Teodoro, the Local Government has lined up a number of measures to bolster footwear and leather goods including organizing several bazaars and caravans that aims to boost the city’s locally made, world class footwear and helps expand the market for these products. And one of those is the Balik Eskwela, Gamit Sapatos Marikina Trade Fair, which is still on-going.

Currently, the said Shoe Bazaar showcases the City’s main products — shoes and bags, but also other leather goods and fashion accessories, that parents and students will be delighted to know this Back-to-School season.

At the booths inside a huge tent set up, more than 40 manufacturers are showcasing their items that boast of high-quality, durability and style.

Also, most consumers know that shoes are sold at discounted prices and even at factory prices! Leather shoes can be purchased in the festival for the unbelievably low price of P500 to P1,200.

Visit the Balik Eskwela Gamit Sapatos Marikina until July 7 at Marikina Freedom Park (near Marikina City Hall, along Shoe Avenue) Mondays to Thursdays – 9am to 7pm, Fridays to Sundays – 9am to 8pm. Surely, you’ll find you perfect pair of shoes and leather goods at great prices here. And for more updates, follow on Instagram and Facebook Page: marikinacitysapatosfestival.
